The Door County Jail is located in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The Door County Jail is operated and managed by the Door County Sheriff’s Office.
The Door County Jail mission is to provide a safe and secure facility for both inmates and the staff. The facility is a medium security correctional facility.
Majority of the inmates that are already sentenced have sentences less than two years. The Door County Jail accepts inmates from surrounding municipalities and towns when there are no rooms in city jails.
The Door County Jail receives new inmates to the jail daily. While new inmates are coming in, there are also inmates leaving as well. Inmates are released when they post bail, placed under probation, or on their own recognizance. In 2016, the Door County Jail booked over 9,500 inmates.
The Door County Jail also provides a Work Center which is a separate facility that holds Work Detail Inmates and the Work Release, inmates. There are around 800 inmates housed in this facility at a given time.
All violent and out of control inmates will be separated from the general population inmates to keep the peace inside the facility at all times.
