The Pittsylvania County Jail is nestled in Chatham, Kentucky. The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency is responsible for day to day operation of the Pittsylvania County Jail.
As this facility does not have its own lock-up area. They frequently take in inmates from the Chatham Police Department. The Pittsylvania County Jail also accepts inmates on a local, state, and even federal level. Not all inmates who are in the Pittsylvania County Jail are residents of Pittsylvania County.
When the main part of the complex first opened they could hold up to 386 inmates. The main part of the complex opened their doors back in 1986.
Their new mental health dormitory can hold up to 300 inmates comfortably as well. They will be expanding their food services area in the near future. They are currently expanding. That will cost nearly $17 million to do. The fourth tent is not currently up for use, but that will add in another 100 beds for inmates.
Medical care is available for inmates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Inmates in the Pittsylvania County Jail will have access to medical care. They will also have a few single cells for inmates who need to stay overnight for further treatment. All medical staff is licensed.
