All inmates in the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center will typically have a 2 year or less sentence. Inmates who get convicted and have a longer sentence than two years will be transported to another prison throughout the state of Virginia.
The Deputies are the ones who are responsible for managing all day to day operations that goes on in the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center. They will also serve food, deliver mail, and enforce all of the detention center rules that are carried out by the State of Virginia. They also will carry out random cell searches and checks.
Inmates will also be given three meals a day, clothing, bed linens, and hygiene products. If an inmate would like to purchase other items to make their stay more comfortable they can go to the canteen. The canteen will sell items such as junk food, beverages, and entertainment items.
