While inmates are serving their time out in the Dickenson County Jail, they can work throughout the jail such as laundry personnel or a kitchen staff member. In return for their hard work, they can shave off a few days from their overall sentence.

In the northeast corner of the Dickenson County, you’ll find the living quarters where the county sheriff stays. The Dickenson County Jail is nestled on the southeast corner in the Dickenson County Courthouse Square. This plain building was built back in 1938 for the jail of the Dickenson County. During this time the second floor of the facility holds around 13 jail sells. Back in the day, all of the cooking was done by the sheriff’s wife. You will see a plain two-story white building.
