The Travis County Jail is situated in Austin, Texas. The facility is operated and maintained by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office.
The facility is a medium-security jail. They currently house both male and female adult inmates. They do not house juveniles.
Inmates in the facility are either waiting for their trial or they have already been sentenced. Inmates who have already been sentenced will typically carry a sentence of 2 years or less. If an inmate gets more than two years, they will be transferred to a different jail in the state of Texas.
The Travis County Jail works closely with many other law enforcement agencies such as the sheriff’s department, police departments, US Marshals and the like. Not all inmates in the Travis County Jail are residents of the Travels County area. There are inmates that came from surrounding counties or they are federal inmates who will be appearing in court in this area.
The facility offers its inmates a wide variety of programs to help prepare themselves for life on the outside. These programs are here to ensure they will not re-offend. These programs include, but not limited to:
- Health & Wellness
- Parenting & Pregnancy
- Substance Abuse
