The McPherson County Jail is operated and managed by the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office.
The facility is a medium-security jail. The facility holds only adult inmates. They do not hold any minors or juveniles as they are called in in the court system.
The McPherson County Jail does not only house inmates who are currently serving their time behind bars. They also house inmates who are currently going through the judicial system. It does not matter if the inmate is currently waiting for their trial or if they are waiting to be sentenced.
All inmates in the McPherson County Jail will typically have a 2 year or less sentence. Inmates who get convicted and have a longer sentence than two years will be transported to another prison throughout the state of South Dakota.
All inmates in the McPherson County Jail will have access to medical care. All medical care is done by a licensed professional doctor.
Inmates will also be given three meals a day, clothing, bed linens, and hygiene products. If an inmate would like to purchase other items to make their stay more comfortable they can go to the canteen. The canteen will sell items such as junk food, beverages, and entertainment items.
