The Hanson County Jail is situated in Alexandria, South Dakota. The Hanson County Sheriff’s Office is the agency that oversees the day to day operation of the Hanson County Jail.
The Hanson County Jail is a medium-security facility. The facility is home to adult male and adult female inmates. This facility does not take in any juvenile inmates whatsoever. There is another facility within the Hanson County that will keep the juveniles.
The Hanson County Jail will typically hold inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, inmates currently going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced. That does not mean, there are not inmates who are currently serving out their sentence in the facility. The Hanson County Jail will only house inmates that have a sentence of 2 years or less. If an inmate is sentenced to more than two years, they will be transferred to a state prison in South Dakota.
The Hanson County Jail has a canteen or what is known as the commissary. The commissary is where inmates will be able to purchase items such as junk food, beverages, entertainment items, clothing, and much more. The commissary will be delivered on Wednesdays. Inmates will need money in their accounts to use this service.
