The Hand County Jail is a medium-security facility. The Hand County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency responsible for the day to day operation of the Hand County Jail. Mike Cleveland, head Sheriff is the officer in charge of overseeing all operations. Cleveland was elected back in July of 2000 and sworn into office in January 2001.

The facility only houses adult male and adult female inmates. The facility does not house any juvenile inmates. The juvenile inmates are housed in a separate facility somewhere else in the county.

The Hand County Jail accepts inmates from other law enforcement agencies on a local, state, and even federal level. The facility frequently takes inmates from the Miller Police Department since they do not have their own personal long-term lockup. The facility operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Majority of the inmates in the Hand County Jail are inmates currently waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, or inmates waiting to be sentenced. There are a handful of inmates in the facility that are serving out their sentence. Inmates who are serving out their sentence will have a sentence of two years or less. If an inmate is sentenced to a sentence for more than two years, they will be transferred to state prison in Georiga.

The roster will not have any inmates who were transferred to a different facility, inmates who are on probation, and inmates who were released.
