Run by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, The Marion County Jail opened 30 years ago in 1989. The facility began with a capacity of approximately 300 inmates and averaged about 270 inmates daily.
Majority of inmates who have already have been sentenced will have a 2 year or less sentence. They are the permanent place for non-violent offenders in the Koochiching county. The jail holds inmates who are already sentenced or inmates who are awaiting trial. The facility is a medium-security county jail.
Safety is the facilities number one goal. All of the correctional officers employed at the Marion will have gone through extensive training to provide a safe and humane environment for their fellow officers and the inmates.
The Marion County Detention Center is located in Mullins, South Carolina.
The Operations Division is also responsible for managing contract providers for departments of the jail such as medical, programs, commissary, and kitchen. This area also encompasses Receiving and Discharge, transport, and the Records Unit.
All violent and out of control inmates will be separated from the general population inmates to keep the peace inside the facility at all times.
