Shoshone County, Idaho is located east of Kootenai and Benewah Counties, north of Clearwater County, and south of Bonner County. Shoshone County Public Works is “committed to serving the residents and visitors of our county to the best of our resources and abilities, and to maintain a safe and reliable road system.”

Forrest Greenfield is the current Shoshone County Public Works director. The other members who make up the administration of this department are as follows:

The Shoshone County Public Works Road and Bridge Department takes care of the maintenance of approximately 377 miles of the county roads in the county. These roads are organized into the following categories:

  • 252.9 miles – Hot mix asphalt pavement
  • 79.4 miles – Gravel – graded & drained
  • 28.2 miles – Road or Cold Plant mix asphalt
  • 14 miles – Asphalt less than 1″ or dust suppressant treated gravel
  • 2 miles – Earth – graded & drained
  • 0.1 miles – Other

Shoshone County manages four road districts and two county parks, and a parking lot:

  • Gene Day
  • Shoshone
  • snowmobile parking lot

Shoshone County Public Works is also responsible for these bike path crossings:

  • Frontage Road crossing west of Wallace
  • Silver Valley Road @ Lake Gulch
  • Gene Day Park access west of Osburn
  • Big Creek Road crossing
  • Golf Course Road crossing
  • Elizabeth Park Road crossing
  • Smelterville crossing (east end)
  • Smelterville crossing @ “K” Street
  • Enaville (FH-9) crossing @Snake Pit
