The Elk County Prison is located in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. The Elk County Prison is operated and managed by the Elk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Elk County Prison mission is to provide a safe and secure facility for both inmates and the staff. The facility is a medium security correctional facility.

All violent and out of control inmates will be separated from the general population inmates to keep the peace inside the facility at all times.

In return for their hard work, they can shave off a few days from their overall sentence. While inmates are serving their time out in the Elk County Prison, they can work throughout the jail such as laundry personnel or a kitchen staff member.

The Elk County Prison mainly house inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, inmates who are going through their trial, and inmates waiting to be sentenced. If an inmate has a sentence for more than two years, they will be transferred to state prison. There are a handful of inmates serving out their time in the facility. The Elk County Prison will only keep inmates who have a sentence less than 2 years.

While new inmates are coming in, there are also inmates leaving as well. Inmates are released when they post bail, placed under probation, or on their own recognizance. The Elk County Prison receives new inmates to the jail daily.
