Jefferson County Adult Detention Center main mission is to protect their staff, inmates, and the community they serve. They also want to provide the best of the best programs to help reduce the likelihood of inmates being re-incarcerated.
The Jefferson County Jail offers inmates programs, such as work release, basic life skills, substance abuse (including AA and NA meetings), a GED program, and Chaplain services.
Not all inmates in the Jefferson County Adult Detention Center are residents of the Jefferson County. The facility will take inmates when the surrounding jails are overcrowded, an inmate as a court appearance in the area, or they are better equipped to handle such an inmate. The facility also accepts inmates on a local, state, and even a federal level.
The inmates will have the option to purchase items from the commissary. The commissary will deliver the inmates goods on Mondays and Fridays.
It currently houses a maximum capacity of 160 inmates who are held in nine connecting housing units, plus the Receiving and Discharge/Transport unit. The Corrections Department currently employs 40 workers. It has come a long way since 1989.
If an inmate is in need of medical attention, they will work with Southern Health Partners for their needs. All inmates will have three meals a day and option to access medical care.
