Run by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, The Putnam County Jail currently houses a maximum capacity of 64 inmates who are held in nine connecting housing units, plus the Receiving and Discharge/Transport unit.
Putnam County Detention Center main mission is to protect their staff, inmates, and the community they serve. They also want to provide the best of the best programs to help reduce the likelihood of inmates being re-incarcerated.
The Putnam County Jail will typically hold inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, inmates currently going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced. The Putnam County Jail will only house inmates that have a sentence of 2 years or less. If an inmate is sentenced to more than two years, they will be transferred to a state prison in Ohio. That does not mean, there are not inmates who are currently serving out their sentence in the facility.
The inmates who are not released will have their own bed and be allotted three meals a day.
