The Emmons County Jail was built back in 1941. The facility is nestled on the fourth floor of the Emmons County Courthouse.
Inmates in the facility are either waiting for their trial or they have already been sentenced. If an inmate gets more than two years, they will be transferred to a different jail in the state of North Dakota. Inmates who have already been sentenced will typically carry a sentence of 2 years or less.
The correctional officers that work in the Emmons County Jail work more than one job as well. Most correctional officers are required to release and process inmates, serve inmates their meals that the cook prepares, wash inmates laundry, clean the facility, and supervise the facility throughout the day and night for the protection of the staff and inmates.
The correctional staff members consist of four part-time jailers, seven full-time jailers, a cook, and a jail sergeant.
The losing of the status brought on research for a potential remodeling of the old facility, whether it was to renovate their current space or build a whole new facility.
