The history of the Dickey County Jail dates back over a century ago. The old facility was constructed in around 1910. The facility was made out of brick. It has the Renaissance Revival style. The facility back then was a three-story jail and had a one-story porch alongside thin columns and brick piers. Many people say that this old Dickey County Jail is a haunted facility.
There is a total of 22,512 living inside the county. The Dickey County Jail is in Ellendale, North Dakota. The Dickey County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency in charge of the day to day operation of the Dickey County Jail.
Back in 1991, the Dickey County Jail merged with the Ellendale Jail for a better, smoother operation style. The North Dakota Detention Center is over the 268,000-square-foot facility. This is why the facility is one of the largest in the bureau. The facility can hold up to 2,980 inmates at any given time.
Majority of the inmates that are already sentenced have sentences less than two years. The Dickey County Jail accepts inmates from surrounding municipalities and towns when there are no rooms in city jails.
