The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for maintaining and operating the Washington County Jail.
The Detention Center comes equipped with a housing area, booking area, laundry facility, medical ward, visiting areas, courtroom, and support areas.
The Washington County Jail also works closely with other law enforcement agencies other than the sheriff’s department. The facility accepts inmates from the surrounding cities, counties, and even will take in the occasional federal inmate. The facility will take in a federal inmate when they have a court appearance in the area.
However, there are a handful of inmates who have already been sentenced as well. The Washington County Jail is home to inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced. Most of the inmates that have been sentenced will carry a sentence of two years and less.
Inmates in the facility can become a trusted inmate. This job will come with a small salary and the chance to have a few days shaved off your sentence. When you are a trusted inmate, you can have the opportunity to have a job within the facility such as working in the laundry section, kitchen, or an orderly.
The main mission of the Washington County Jail is to rehabilitate the inmates prior to releasing them back into the communities.
