The history of the Person County Detention Center dates back over a century ago. The old facility was constructed in around 1910. The facility was made out of brick. It has the Renaissance Revival style. The facility back then was a three-story jail and had a one-story porch alongside thin columns and brick piers. Many people say that this old Person County Detention Center is a haunted facility.
The facility held many, many inmates over the years. They’ve even done their fair share of executions as well. The last execution that happened in the facility was back in 1949. This old Person County Detention Center closed their doors back in 2007 and sat empty since then.
Fast forward to the present time, in the 2000s, the county decided that they needed a bigger and better facility to house their inmates. Person County’s new jail is state of the art. They house adult male and adult female inmates. The female inmate population has grown to about 10-percent in the Person County Detention Center alone.
The Person County Detention Center is in Roxboro, North Carolina. The Person County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency in charge of the day to day operation of the Person County Detention Center. There is a total of 22,512 living inside the county.
