The Ashe County Detention Center can hold up to 20 inmates. This number is certified due to the North Carolina Commission on Jail Standards. The facility also is a US Marshals holding center alongside an over 72-hour I.C.E holding center.

This facility does not house juvenile inmates. The Ashe County Detention Center is a medium-security facility. Juvenile inmates are housed in a separate facility in the county. The facility only houses both adult male and adult female inmates.
