The Quay County Detention Center accepts inmates from surrounding municipalities and towns. They accept many inmates from the Tucumcari Police Department since they currently do NOT have their own long-term lock-up area for inmates.
While the Quay County Detention Center is a full-service detention center, they operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
If an inmate is convicted and sentenced for more than 2 years, they will typically be transferred to a federal prison or the New Mexico State Prison.
They are also trained to use physical force to not only protect themselves but other inmates and visitors. All correctional officers working in the Quay County Detention Center are equipped with mace.
Their correctional officers go through intense training to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The Quay County & Annex operates that surpasses both state and national standards on a day to day basis.
The Quay County Detention Center is situated in Tucumcari, New Mexico. The Bertie-Martin County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Quay County Detention Center.
