The goal of the Lea County Jail is to have all of their staff members meet and exceed the standards that the Administrative Codes, New Mexico State Statutes, and the United State Constitution set forth. All staff members will go through rigorous training to meet every procedure and policy to ensure the safety of both the other staff members and the community.
Inmates who become a trusted inmate can have the opportunity to be a part of the road crew team. These positions will allow inmates to work outside the facility (under supervision of a correctional officer) to clean roadsides from litter, while also helping non-profits, alongside other various government agencies.
The Lea County Detention Center is nestled in Lovington, New Mexico. This is the law enforcement agency responsible for the day to day operation of the Lea County Detention Center.
The facility will accept inmates from other law enforcement agencies from the local, state, and even federal level. Inmates in the Lea County Detention Center are not always residents of the county.
It can hold over 432 inmates. Many inmates in this facility have a sentence of 2 years and less. The facility is a medium-security facility.
