The Sioux County Jail is a maximum-security facility. The facility is eight stories tall and adjacent to the downtown Fort Lauderdale Sioux County Courthouse.
The facility was built back in 1985. When the facility was built it cost around $41.6 million. When the building was designed it was going to house nearly 864 state and local inmates at that time.
It was not until 1988 and in 1992 where they expanded and expanded until they can house 1,538 inmates. The facility employs over 400 sworn staff along with a civilian staff that supervises this facility. These staff members also include the Central Intake Bureau that works with all Sioux County law enforcement. They also have their own centralized classification intake assessment as well.
The Sioux County Jail only houses all adult males. Most of the inmates in this facility are currently waiting to be sentenced or waiting for their trial. However, there are still some inmates who have already been sentenced. For the inmates who have been sentenced, they typically have a sentence of one year or less.
The inmates who are in the Sioux County Jail are usually violent, dangerous, escape risks, and require to be in a maximum-security facility. However, the facility also houses typically around 65 juveniles that are waiting for their trial, but they are housed separately from the adults.
