The Perkins County Jail is nestled in Grant City, Nebraska. The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency responsible for the day to day operations of the Perkins County Jail.
While new inmates are coming in, there are also inmates leaving as well. Inmates are released when they post bail, placed under probation, or on their own recognizance. The Perkins County Jail receives new inmates to the jail daily.
However, there are a handful of inmates who have already been sentenced as well. The Perkins County Jail is home to inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced. Most of the inmates that have been sentenced will carry a sentence of two years and less.
It was named after the former Civil War General Philip Cook. The county expands over 233 square miles. The Perkins County Sheriff’s Office formed in late 1918.
If an inmate was sentenced and their sentence is greater than a year, they will be transferred out to state prison. Inmates who are serving out their time in the Perkins County Jail will carry a sentence less than a year.
The Perkins County Jail surpasses both state and national requirements.
