The Prairie County Jail is nestled in Terry, Montana. The Prairie County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the Prairie County Jail.
In return for their hard work, they can shave off a few days from their overall sentence. While inmates are serving their time out in the Prairie County Jail, they can work throughout the jail such as laundry personnel or a kitchen staff member.
The Prairie County Jail will only keep inmates if they have a sentence shorter than two years. There is a handful of inmates that have already been sentenced. If an inmate is a sentence to a sentence longer than two years, they will be transferred to a state prison in Montana. The majority of the inmates housed in the Prairie County Jail are waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced.
In the commissary, inmates can purchase items such as junk food, beverages, clothing, sneakers, entertainment items, and much more. The Prairie County Jail has a canteen. The canteen is also known as the commissary. The commissary is brought to the facility by Trinity Services Group.
The Main Jail was built back in 1989. With all three facilities, they can hold over 2,400 inmates. The Prairie County Jail is one of the three jails under the operation of the Prairie County Sheriff’s Office.
