The Sharkey County Jail is one of the direct supervision facility. A direct supervision jail mainly focuses on managing the inmate’s behavior to provide a secure and humane environment for staff, visitors, and inmates. The staff will interact with the inmates in their housing units, while also keeping an eye on them to pinpoint issues before they get too big.
Every housing unit is nearly the same. They will consist of a video visitation area, telephones to call home, gaming and dining tables, a common television, recreational area, a classroom, and a canteen/vending machines.
The Sharkey County Jail takes in new inmates every day. They do release inmates after they posted bond, was put on probation or finished their sentence. The facility will occasionally release inmates when the facility is overcrowded.
Not all inmates are residents of Sharkey County. The Sharkey County Jail houses inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, inmates who are going through their trial, and the inmate’s who have already been sentenced. The Sharkey County Jail accepts inmates from the local, state, and even the occasional federal level.
The Sharkey County Jail is a medium-security facility. The facility does not house any juvenile inmates. The facility houses both adult female and adult male inmates.
