The Somerset County Jail is operated and managed by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

In August of 2018, the Somerset County Jail was announced as one of the nationally accredited facilities by the American Correctional Association. This was two years in the making. It was a huge undertaking, but it could not have been done without Dale Lancaster’s vision and the entire staff at the facility. They have worked their boots off to ensure the jail met not only the state but national standards every single day. The Somerset County Jail will be accredited until 2021 according to the Adult Local Detention Facility Standards.

In late 2017, the Somerset County Jail was the first county jail throughout the state of Maine to be certified as PREA compliant according to the United States Department of Justice.

The main goal of the Somerset County Jail is to provide a safe and humane environment for both the correctional officers and the inmates who are serving time in the facility. The facility not only meets the state standards, but the facility also surpasses the national standards when it comes to jail safety.

Every inmate in the Somerset County Jail will be provided with bed linens, uniforms, three meals a day, and medical care.
