The Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia is located in Columbia, Louisiana. The Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia is maintained and owned by the Board of County Commissioners but is operated by the Caldwell Parish County Sheriff’s Office.
Every inmate in the Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia will be provided with bed linens, uniforms, three meals a day, and medical care.
As of currently, the Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia can house over 1,500 inmates every day. The complex comes equipped with a housing area, booking area, laundry facility, medical ward, visiting areas, courtroom, and support areas.
The Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia opened its doors back in August of 1990. When the Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia opened it was replacing the Columbia Correctional Facility.
They have worked their boots off to ensure the jail met not only the state but national standards every single day. This was two years in the making. In August of 2018, the Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia was announced as one of the nationally accredited facilities by the American Correctional Association. The Swanson Center for Youth at Columbia will be accredited until 2021 according to the Adult Local Detention Facility Standards. It was a huge undertaking, but it could not have been done without Dale Lancaster’s vision and the entire staff at the facility.
