The history of the L. Roberts Rivarde Memorial Home dates back over a century ago. The old facility was constructed in around 1910. The facility was made out of brick. It has the Renaissance Revival style. The facility back then was a three-story jail and had a one-story porch alongside thin columns and brick piers. Many people say that this old L. Roberts Rivarde Memorial Home is a haunted facility.
The facility held many, many inmates over the years. They’ve even done their fair share of executions as well. The last execution that happened in the facility was back in 1949. This old L. Roberts Rivarde Memorial Home closed their doors back in 2007 and sat empty since then.
Fast forward to the present time, in the 2000s, the county decided that they needed a bigger and better facility to house their inmates. Jefferson Parish County’s new jail is state of the art. They house adult male and adult female inmates. The female inmate population has grown to about 10-percent in the L. Roberts Rivarde Memorial Home alone.
The L. Roberts Rivarde Memorial Home is in Harvey, Louisiana. The Jefferson Parish County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency in charge of the day to day operation of the L. Roberts Rivarde Memorial Home. There is a total of 22,512 living inside the county.
