The J.B. Evans Correctional Center is a medium-security facility. The facility houses both adult female and adult male inmates. The facility does not house any juvenile inmates.

The J.B. Evans Correctional Center is home to inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced. However, there are a handful of inmates who have already been sentenced as well. Most of the inmates that have been sentenced will carry a sentence of two years and less.

Not all inmates who are in the Newellton  County Jail are residents of Henderson County. The J.B. Evans Correctional Center also accepts inmates on a local, state, and even federal level. They frequently take in inmates from the Newellton Police Department. As this facility does not have its own lock-up area.

Inmates in the J.B. Evans Correctional Center will have the opportunity to visit with their friends and family. They are allotted 20 minutes a day with any one person.
