The Jefferson County Jail is operated and managed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department wants to promote a safe and humane housing facility for its inmates, staff, and the community they serve.
The goal of the Jefferson County Jail is to have all of their staff members meet and exceed the standards that the Administrative Codes, Iowa State Statutes, and the United State Constitution set forth. All staff members will go through rigorous training to meet every procedure and policy to ensure the safety of both the other staff members and the community.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson County Jail is a huge part of the law enforcement community. They are a major part in serving the various law enforcement agencies in promoting with a more safer and efficient way.
The facility is a medium-security facility. Many inmates in this facility have a sentence of 2 years and less. However, the Jefferson County Jail does not only hold those with a sentence, but they also hold inmates who are awaiting trial, or those who could not post bond either. All inmates are entitled to having medical care (if needed), three meals a day, and personal hygiene care.
