The Montgomery County Jail is located in Hillsboro, Illinois. The Montgomery County Jail is operated and managed by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
All violent and out of control inmates will be separated from the general population inmates to keep the peace inside the facility at all times.
While new inmates are coming in, there are also inmates leaving as well. Inmates are released when they post bail, placed under probation, or on their own recognizance. The Montgomery County Jail receives new inmates to the jail daily.
Majority of the inmates in the Montgomery County Jail are waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, or waiting for their sentence. All inmates serving out their sentence in the facility will only have a sentence of 2 years or less. However, there are still a handful of inmates who are currently serving out their sentence in the facility. If an inmate is a sentence to a longer sentence, they will be transferred to a different facility.
The jail works closely with other law enforcement agencies and takes in inmates from surrounding counties and even will take in the occasional federal inmate as well.
They do not hold any minors or juveniles as they are called in in the court system. The jail holds only adult inmates. The facility is a medium-security jail.
