The Menard County Jail is a medium-security detention center. This facility will house adult male and adult female inmates. This facility does not house any juveniles. Juveniles are housed in a separate facility within the county.
The Menard County Jail first opened its doors back in 1989. During this time, the jail could only hold a maximum of 30 inmates.
Justin Hartman, Chief of Corrections is one of the supervisors that oversee the correctional officers in the Menard County Jail. The jail is one of the Menard County Sheriff’s Department main task by the Illinois State Constitution.

However, there are a handful of inmates who have already been sentenced as well. Most of the inmates that have been sentenced will carry a sentence of two years and less. The Menard County Jail is home to inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced.
