Most of the inmates that have been sentenced will carry a sentence of two years and less. If an inmate is sentenced to more than 2 years, they will be transferred to another facility in the state. The Lee County Jail is home to inmates who are waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, and inmates who are waiting to be sentenced. However, there are a handful of inmates who have already been sentenced as well.
The Lee County Jail is a medium-security detention center. This facility will house adult male and adult female inmates. Juveniles are housed in a different facility in the county. This facility does not house any juveniles.
This cost nearly $15.5 million. Back in November 2002, they constructed the “North Wing”. With this wing, they also included a medical housing area that can hold nearly 32 inmates, a new kitchen area, administrative offices, and inmate video visitation. This wing was the direct supervision wing.
As of today the facility went under many major renovations this structure, which once was the Old Courthouse is now the Clerk of the Court among other offices, even includes a few courtrooms. The most current renovation was all about recreating the original style of the courthouse back in its original glory.
