The goal of the Cook County Jail is to have all of their staff members meet and exceed the standards that the Administrative Codes, Illinois State Statutes, and the United State Constitution set forth. All staff members will go through rigorous training to meet every procedure and policy to ensure the safety of both the other staff members and the community.
It can hold over 400 inmates. The facility is a medium-security facility. Many inmates in this facility have a sentence of 2 years and less.
However, the Cook County Jail does not only hold those with a sentence, but they also hold inmates who are awaiting trial, or those who could not post bond either. All inmates are entitled to having medical care (if needed), three meals a day, and personal hygiene care.
All deputies that work in the Black Hawk Jail go through intense training to help them provide a safe and humane environment for the staff members, visitors, and other inmates. The facility does not only meet the state’s standards, but they also surpass the national standards as well.
The facility frequently takes inmates from the Chicago Police Department since they do not have their own personal long-term lockup. The facility operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The Cook County Jail – Division III accepts inmates from other law enforcement agencies on a local, state, and even federal level.
