The Cook County Jail was designed to meet and surpass the State Requirements. However, the facility also was designed to ensure a safe environment for the correctional officers. The building materials that were used to build the Trumball County Detention Center was used as it would create a maintenance-free, yet long-term complex.
The Old Cook County Jail is one of the last hanging buildings in the Cook County area. Back in August of 1982, the Old Cook County Jail was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
