The Bureau County Jail, located in Princeton, Illinois, is a 263-bed direct supervision facility located at the Law Enforcement Center. The Bureau County Jail is a medium to a maximum-security facility.
The last execution that happened in the facility was back in 1949. They’ve even done their fair share of executions as well. This old Bureau County Jail closed their doors back in 2007 and sat empty since then. The facility held many, many inmates over the years.
The Bureau County Jail is a medium-security facility. The facility only houses both adult male and adult female inmates. This facility does not house juvenile inmates.

Housing units are staffed 24 hours a day by correctional officers who organize all of the activities in the jail.
Female inmates in custody are currently housed at the Ramsey County Workhouse.
All of the inmates serving time in the Bureau County Jail are either awaiting trial or have been sentenced in the Bureau County Court System and been sentenced to one year or less. Any inmate who has a longer time to serve will be sentenced to a Illinois prison.
