The Nez Perce Juvenile Detention Center accepts inmates from surrounding municipalities and towns. They accept many inmates from the Lewiston Police Department since they currently do NOT have their own long-term lock-up area for inmates.

The facility is operated and managed by the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office.

The facility is a minimum-security facility. The Nez Perce County Jail is located in Lewiston, Idaho.

While the Nez Perce Juvenile Detention Center is a full-service detention center, they operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

All correctional officers working in the Nez Perce Juvenile Detention Center are equipped with mace. They are also trained to use physical force to not only protect themselves but other inmates and visitors.

Majority of the inmates in the facility are non-violent offenders. They typically carry a 2 year or less sentence. The facility does not only house inmates who have sentences, they also house inmates who are currently awaiting their trial also.

If an inmate is convicted and sentenced for more than 2 years, they will typically be transferred to a federal prison or the Idaho State Prison.
