The Jefferson County Correctional Institution is located in Louisville, Georgia. The Jefferson County Correctional Institution is operated and managed by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The facility opened its doors back in 1983 with a population of 20 inmates during that time. 

The Jefferson County Correctional Institution mission is to provide a safe and secure facility for both inmates and the staff. The facility is a medium security correctional facility.

Majority of the inmates that are already sentenced have sentences less than two years. The Jefferson County Correctional Institution accepts inmates from surrounding municipalities and towns when there are no rooms in city jails.

The Jefferson County Correctional Institution receives new inmates to the jail daily. While new inmates are coming in, there are also inmates leaving as well. Inmates are released when they post bail, placed under probation, or on their own recognizance.

While inmates are serving their time out in the Jefferson County Correctional Institution, they can work throughout the jail such as laundry personnel or a kitchen staff member. In return for their hard work, they can shave off a few days from their overall sentence.

All violent and out of control inmates will be separated from the general population inmates to keep the peace inside the facility at all times.
