The Hart County Jail is a medium-security facility. The Hart County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency responsible for the day to day operation of the Hart County Jail. Mike Cleveland, head Sheriff is the officer in charge of overseeing all operations. Cleveland was elected back in July of 2000 and sworn into office in January 2001.

The facility only houses adult male and adult female inmates. The facility does not house any juvenile inmates. The juvenile inmates are housed in a separate facility somewhere else in the county.

The Hart County Jail accepts inmates from other law enforcement agencies on a local, state, and even federal level. The facility frequently takes inmates from the Hartwell Police Department since they do not have their own personal long-term lockup. The facility operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Majority of the inmates in the Hart County Jail are inmates currently waiting for their trial to start, going through their trial, or inmates waiting to be sentenced. There are a handful of inmates in the facility that are serving out their sentence. Inmates who are serving out their sentence will have a sentence of two years or less. If an inmate is sentenced to a sentence for more than two years, they will be transferred to state prison in Georiga.

The Hart County Jail has its current inmate roster available on the web for the community to search through. The inmate roster is composed of the inmates in the custody of Hart County Jail. The roster will not have any inmates who were transferred to a different facility, inmates who are on probation, and inmates who were released.
