Run by the Bacon County Sheriff’s Office, The Bacon County Jail opened 30 years ago in 1989. The facility began with a capacity of approximately 300 inmates and averaged about 270 inmates daily.
The Operations Division is also responsible for managing contract providers for departments of the jail such as medical, programs, commissary, and kitchen. This area also encompasses Receiving and Discharge, transport, and the Records Unit.
They are also trained to use physical force to not only protect themselves but other inmates and visitors. All correctional officers working in the Bacon County Jail are equipped with mace.
The Bacon County Jail mission is to provide a safe and secure facility for both inmates and the staff. The facility is a medium security correctional facility.
While inmates are serving their time out in the Bacon County Jail, they can work throughout the jail such as laundry personnel or a kitchen staff member. In return for their hard work, they can shave off a few days from their overall sentence.
