The Atkinson County Jail is operated and managed by the Atkinson County Sheriff’s Department.
No minors will be housed in this facility. The Atkinson County Jail only houses adult inmates. The Atkinson County Jail is a medium-security facility.
The jail is divided into “pods,” each of which includes individual cells (2-3 inmates per cell), sitting areas, and an outside recreation court where inmates can play basketball or work out.
They will accept inmates from surrounding cities, counties, and will even take in the occasional federal inmates. The Atkinson County Jail operates closely with other law enforcement agencies.
While in the Atkinson County Jail, inmates will have the opportunity to buy products that they are not given by the facility at the commissary. Inmates will need funds in their account to purchase these items from the commissary. The jail uses Access Corrections for their commissary needs.
In 2000, the detention center expanded and currently has the capacity to hold 120 inmates.
