The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency responsible for operated and managing the San Juan County Jail.
In 2017, the San Juan County Jail has a daily inmate population around 1085. The Sheriff’s Office main mission is to try and reduce the inmate population by providing them with proactive, yet innovative release programs to help them not re-offend again. Some of these release programs include a court-sponsored pretrial release alongside community-based work programs that are operated through the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
All inmates in the facility will have access to showers, three meals a day, and medical care.
Most of the inmates in the San Juan County Jail are inmates who are waiting for their trial and they have been denied bond or could not post bond.
The San Juan County Jail is a medium-security facility. The main mission of the detention center is to provide many services along with necessary operations not only for the protection of the community, but also to provide a safe and humane environment for the staff working inside the San Juan County Jail. The facility also wants to maintain respect for all inmates in their custody.
The San Juan County Jail also works closely with other law enforcement agencies too. They will take in federal inmates when needed along with taking inmates from the surrounding counties.
