The mission of the Saguache County Jail is to provide a safe and secure confinement of those persons committed to the custody of the jail, and to ensure that all inmates are treated in accordance with the established laws of the United States of America and the State of Colorado, and the Jail administration work daily to meet that mission.

The facility holds inmates who are residents of Saguache County. However, they will take in inmates from the state or federal prisons when necessary.

Most inmates housed at Saguache County Jail are awaiting their court dates. Some have been tried and are serving shorter times for their convictions. Probation violations and drug offenses are the crimes that most of these inmates commit.

The jail is divided into “pods,” each of which includes individual cells (2-3 inmates per cell), sitting areas, and an outside recreation court where inmates can play basketball or work out.
