The Santa Clara County North Jail is operated and managed by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department.

The correctional staff members consist of four part-time jailers, seven full-time jailers, a cook, and a jail sergeant.

As of today, the Santa Clara County North Jail can house up to 919 inmates at any given time. The jail is fairly small. The facility consists of an office portion where the jailers will sit at their desk along with two holding pens where they old the current arrestees waiting to be processed and booked into the facility or those who will soon be released from the facility after they detoxify.

The facility also includes a dayroom. In the dayroom, they have a telephone and telephones where they can watch movies and television shows along with calling their loved ones back home. The dayroom also allows the inmates to interact with one another as well. The dayroom is heavily monitored by the correctional staff.

The correctional officers that work in the Santa Clara County North Jail work more than one job as well. Most correctional officers are required to release and process inmates, serve inmates their meals that the cook prepares, wash inmates laundry, clean the facility, and supervise the facility throughout the day and night for the protection of the staff and inmates.

The correctional officers perform daily jail checks which will include walking the perimeter and ensure that no inmate can escape. Correctional officers also ensure that inmates have all of the proper things they need and that they are well.

All inmates are required to follow all rules set forth by the correctional officers.
