The Mat-Su Youth Facility is a medium-security facility. The facility houses both adult female and adult male inmates. The facility does not house any juvenile inmates.
The Mat-Su Youth Facility that you know today, was not the once awesome state of the art jail that you see now. In Palmer, Alaska the Old Mat-Su Youth Facility is a historic site. This original jail was constructed back in 1903.
Back in August of 1982, the Old Mat-Su Youth Facility was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Old Mat-Su Youth Facility is one of the last hanging buildings in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough County area.
Back in 1965, a modern facility replaced this historic prison. It was not until 1504 when a new jail facility along with the Sheriff’s Department.
Not all inmates who are in the Mat-Su Youth Facility are residents of Matanuska-Susitna Borough County. The Mat-Su Youth Facility also accepts inmates on a local, state, and even federal level. They frequently take in inmates from the Palmer Police Department. As this facility does not have its own lock-up area.
The Mat-Su Youth Facility takes in new inmates every day. They do release inmates after they posted bond, was put on probation or finished their sentence.
