The Homer Community Jail is operated and ran by the Kenai Peninsula Borough County Sheriff’s Office.
During a typical year, the Homer Community Jail may book around 1,100 inmates. The only have 14 staff members to run the jail. They typically have a daily average of 56 inmates with them.
Inmates are released when they post bail, placed under probation, or on their own recognizance. The Homer Community Jail receives new inmates to the jail daily. While new inmates are coming in, there are also inmates leaving as well.
All correctional officers working in the Homer Community Jail are equipped with mace. They are also trained to use physical force to not only protect themselves but other inmates and visitors.
HACTC also will contract with other agencies as well. The Homer Community Jail is also operating as the Heart of America Correctional & Treatment Center or also known as HACTC. Their main mission is so to ensure the safety of the public through supervising inmates that are placed into their custody while they go through the court systems.
However, not all inmates in the Homer Community Jail have already been sentenced. The facility also holds inmates who are currently awaiting trial and those who have violated their probation or bond terms.
