The St. Clair County Jail is situated in Ashville, Alabama. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is the law enforcement agency who is responsible for operating and managing the St. Clair County Jail. Scott Walton is the St. Clair County Sheriff that oversees the day to day operations in the facility.
Violent and out of control inmates are segregated. When an inmate arrives in jail, he or she is put together in a large holding cell with other inmates during booking. The inmates are watched closely during this time to see if they will be put in the general population or isolated.
The correctional officers will process and book inmates, do random bunk checks, provide inmates with the necessary tools to complete their day, and ensure the inmates are in a safe environment. Correctional officers go through an intense training course which surpasses both state and national laws.
The St. Clair County Jail will provide inmates with their three meals a day, shower access, telephone access, bed linens, uniforms, and hygiene products when they go through the booking process.
