The Madison County Courthouse Detention Facility accepts inmates from surrounding municipalities and towns. They accept many inmates from the Huntsville Police Department since they currently do NOT have their own long-term lock-up area for inmates.
The facility is operated and managed by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
The facility is a minimum-security facility. The Madison County Jail is located in Huntsville, Alabama.
While the Madison County Courthouse Detention Facility is a full-service detention center, they operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
All correctional officers working in the Madison County Courthouse Detention Facility are equipped with mace. They are also trained to use physical force to not only protect themselves but other inmates and visitors.
Majority of the inmates in the facility are non-violent offenders. They typically carry a 2 year or less sentence. The facility does not only house inmates who have sentences, they also house inmates who are currently awaiting their trial also.
If an inmate is convicted and sentenced for more than 2 years, they will typically be transferred to a federal prison or the Alabama State Prison.
