Lauderdale County Jail was built in 1998, and when opened, there were only 36 inmate beds.

In 2000, the detention center expanded and currently has the capacity to hold 120 inmates.

Operated by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, the Lauderdale County Jail houses male and female inmates who are awaiting trial or sentencing. Most of the sentenced inmates are there for less than two years.
