The Somerset County Detention Center is located in Somerset, Pennsylvania. The facility is operated and ran by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department.

The Somerset County Detention Center first opened its doors back in 1989. During this time, the jail could only hold a maximum of 30 inmates.

Shortly after they opened their doors, they started to expand by adding more housing units, which brought their total from 30 inmates up to 136 inmates.

The Somerset County Detention Center does not the only house sentenced inmates. They also house inmates who are awaiting their trial. These inmates have been arrested in Somerset County. The jail is responsible for booking inmates, inmate transport, inmate medical screenings, shakedowns, cell checks, and court security.
