When someone is arrested in Madison County, they will be taken to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Justice Center and then booked and processed into the Madison County Jail.

The facility is a medium-security jail. The jail holds only adult inmates. They do not hold any minors or juveniles as they are called in in the court system.

The Madison County Jail does not only house inmates who are currently serving their time behind bars. They also house inmates who are currently going through the judicial system. It does not matter if the inmate is currently waiting for their trial or if they are waiting to be sentenced.

All inmates in the Madison County Jail will typically have a 2 year or less sentence. Inmates who get convicted and have a longer sentence than two years will be transported to another prison throughout the state of Indiana.

The jail works closely with other law enforcement agencies and takes in inmates from surrounding counties and even will take in the occasional federal inmate as well.

The Madison County Jail currently employs correctional officers from deputies to Staff Sergeant. All correctional officers will go through rigorous training to ensure the safety of themselves and the inmates.

The facility can currently hold up to 70 inmates at any given time.
